Fingerprint Instructions

The following instructions relate to submitting fingerprints for a criminal records check. We have no ability to view criminal record checks you completed for another agency or state.  You must provide fingerprints each time you file an application with us as we do not have access to prior criminal records checks that you have completed.

  • The New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners’ fingerprint requests are submitted through the New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s vendor, IdentoGo.
  • The cost is $59.00, and that payment is paid directly to IdentoGo at the time of registration.
  • Processes are different for in-state (within the state of New Mexico) fingerprinting versus out-of-state fingerprinting.
  • The ORI Number for all applicants is NM920150Z.

For In-State Fingerprinting:

In-State fingerprinting can be done by New Mexico residents or applicants visiting the state of New Mexico.  Applicants will register in the system, make an appointment to be fingerprinted at an Identogo location of their choosing, and the results will be sent directly to the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners.  In-State fingerprinting applicants do not need fingerprint cards.

In-State applicants can register and make an appointment here:  https://nm.state.identogo.com/

The ORI Number for all applicants is NM920150Z

For Out-of-State Fingerprinting:

If you are unable to be fingerprinted in New Mexico, you will register and submit your fingerprints by mail.  This service is only available to out-of-state residents or those that are physically unable to be digitally fingerprinted.  These fingerprints are done with ink.  Unfortunately, you cannot undergo digital fingerprinting out an out of state Identogo location.  To submit out-of-state fingerprints:

  • Request fingerprint cards with the form below on this page.
  • We will mail you the fingerprint cards.
  • You will register in the IdentoGo system, and you may then mail the completed cards to IdentoGo using this link: https://nm.state.identogo.com/.
  • Please carefully follow the instructions given to you by IdentoGo.
  • Your report will be provided directly to the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners

Out-of-state applicants must use the cards we provide to them.  Please be aware that submission of incorrect or invalid data, including but not limited to incorrect ORI or applicant demographic data that results in the need to conduct a new fingerprint card submission will be at the applicant’s cost. Demographic information provided on the fingerprint card must exactly match the demographic information entered during the registration process or the card will be returned.

We recommend requesting fingerprint cards from us as soon as you decide to apply.  After you are fingerprinted out of state, it often takes four to six weeks for us to receive the results.

The ORI Number for all applicants is NM920150Z
